Comments:

League position: 19th This was Newcastle United’s first game following the Saudi Arabian-backed £305million takeover that brought an end to Mike Ashley’s 14-year ownership. The Magpies had now kept a clean sheet in two of their last 27 home games in the Premier League and conceded 52 goals. Along with Burnley and Norwich City, they were now one of three teams without a win after eight games of this Premier League season. 23 years and 70 days after his first game in August 1998, this was the 1,000th game in all competitions of Steve Bruce’s managerial career (won 373, lost 365). He was sacked three days after this game.

Comments:

League position: 5th Tottenham Hotspur had now won five of their eight games so far in this Premier League season but none by more than a one goal margin. Spurs had now scored 51 goals in 31 games in the Premier League in 2021 (conceded 42). Although he scored his first goal in this Premier League season in this game, Harry Kane had now scored ten goals in 15 appearances for club and country in all competitions so far in 2021-22. Harry Kane's goal was initially disallowed for offside but the decision was subsequently overturned following a VAR review.
