Comments:

Newcastle United remained unbeaten in their last nine games in the Premier League against newly-promoted teams (won four). Callum Wilson became the second player to score for the Magpies in their opening game in three consecutive seasons in the Premier League after Alan Shearer from 2002-03 to 2004-05. The Toon had now taken 41 points from their 17 games in the Premier League in 2022.

Comments:

This was Nottingham Forest’s first game in the Premier League since 16 May 1999. The gap of 8,483 days became longest absence for a club with more than one spell in the division (previously 5,964 days by Leeds United from 15 May 2004 to 12 September 2020). This was Forest’s 100th away game in the Premier League (won 25, lost 48). They had now conceded 14 goals in their 22 league games in 2022.
