Comments:

League position: 9th Newcastle United had now lost two of their last 16 league games at home (won ten). Philippe Coutinho's goal was the first goal that United had conceded in the first-half of a Premier League game in this season (played seven). Captain Jamaal Lascelles made his 150th career appearance in this game. Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez said: “Some games you get what you deserve, some games not too much. In this case we get one point at home, which is not too much, but against a top side it's not too bad. In the end I am really happy with the result against a top side that has been creating chances against everyone. To get a point at home is not the best, but against a good team like Liverpool you have to be happy.”

League position: 7th Liverpool had now won one of their last seven games in all competitions. The Reds were now are unbeaten in their last 24 games in the Premier League played in the month of October since October 2010 (won 13). Captain Jordan Henderson made his 250th appearance for Liverpool in this game. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said: "I thought that we were the better, more active side and that we created more chances. Clear chances, which we usually should use. Yes, I think we should have won. But I know how it works and I have to accept it. Did Newcastle make a chance on the counter attack? If you are dominant, you avoid the chances. I cannot remember one chance that they had on the counter attack."
