League position: 5th This game took place on day after the first anniversary of the Saudi-Arabian-backed takeover of Newcastle United. A year ago, they were in 19th position in the Premier League. The Magpies had now scored four or more goals in consecutive games in the Premier League for the first time since September 2001, and the first time they had scored five or more goals in a league game since a 6-0 win against Queens Park Rangers in the League Championship in September 2016. They had now taken 52 points from their 25 games in the Premier League in 2022.

Comments:

League position: 12th Brentford conceded five or more goals in a league game for the first time since a 5-0 loss at Norwich City in the League championship on 3 December 2016. Former Newcastle United forward Ivan Toney had now scored all seven penalties he had taken in the Premier League; only Yaya Touré (11) and Dimitar Berbatov (nine) had taken more spot-kicks in the division without failing to convert. The Bees avoided failing to score in three consecutive league games for the first time since April 2019 in the League Championship. Bryan Mbeumo scored in the tenth minute but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision.
