Comments:

Netherlands scored three or more goals in a game at the UEFA European Championship finals for the first time since their 4-1 win against France in Berne in a Group C game at Euro 2008. After scoring ten goals in his first 53 international appearances, Georginio Wijnaldum scored eight in seven qualifying games in Group C to finish as the Netherlands' top scorer in qualifying for Euro 2020. Aged 38 years and 264 days, Maarten Stekelenburg became the oldest-ever player to play for the Netherlands at a major tournament (FIFA World Cup finals or UEFA European Championship finals); previously Edwin van der Sar against Russia at Euro 2008 in Switzerland (37 years and 236 days).

Comments:

Ukraine had now equalled Yugoslavia’s competition record from 1968 to 1984 of six consecutive defeats at UEFA European Championship finals. Andriy Yarmolenko ended Ukraine’s competition record of failing to score in five consecutive games at UEFA European Championship finals. Both of their two previous goals at the finals were scored by current coach Andriy Shevchenko in 2012. Ukraine were one of five nations to remain unbeaten throughout qualifying for Euro 2020; also Belgium, Denmark, Italy and Spain.
