Comments:

League position: 19th Following the departure of manager Aitor Karanka, this was Steve Agnew's first game in caretaker charge. Middlesbrough were now without a win in their last 11 games in the Premier League. Rudy Gestede scored Boro’s first goal in open play in the Premier League for nine hours and 50 minutes (509 minutes) since their 1-3 defeat by West Ham United on 21 January 2017. This was their 1,000th defeat in the top division (played 2,428, won 817). Middlesbrough caretaker manager Steve Agnew said: "If we show that commitment and that sort of intensity until the end of the season then we have a real chance of staying in this league."

League position: 5th Manchester United became the first club to win 600 games in the Premier League (played 951, lost 147). The Red Devils were now in their highest league position since 16 September 2016. Antonio Valencia made his 200th Premier League appearance for United in this game. Manchester United manager José Mourinho said: "We don't have plan B, C, D, E, F and G - but we have M, N, O, P and S. It is fantastic because we manage in the same week, to go to the quarter-finals of the Europa League which is an important target for us."
