League position: 15th Middlesbrough failed in their attempt to win consecutive home games in the Premier League for the first time since August 2008. Boro had now taken four points from their six home games so far in this Premier League season. Only bottom-of-the-table Swansea City (two) had won fewer. They had now conceded only two goals in their last four Premier League games.

The Blues had now won six consecutive games without conceding a goal for the fifth time in the Premier League.
