Comments:

League position: 19th Álvaro Negredo had now scored five of Middlesbrough's 13 goals in home games in the Premier League so far in this season; no other player had scored more than two goals. Boro had now scored only 23 goals in their 32 games so far in this Premier League season. They remained without a win in the Premier League in 2017 (played 15, lost nine). Middlesbrough caretaker manager Steve Agnew: "We are bitterly disappointed with the result but the players gave everything they had. We couldn't ask more of them. We played on the front foot, put them under pressure. I felt we might get the second goal after Negredo scored."

Comments:

League position: 6th Alexis Sánchez's opener was Arsenal’s 3,000th goal in away league games. Only Manchester United had scored more (3,226). This was the first time that the Gunners made at least six changes to the starting line-up from their previous Premier League game during a season since a visit to Birmingham City on New Year's Day in 2011. They avoided losing lose five consecutive away games in the top division for the first time since December 1984. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: "It was a big test, Middlesbrough gave everything. It's one of their last chances to stay in the league. We have to win every game to have a chance to get in the top four, starting tonight. I think it will make the team a bit more serene."
