Comments:

League position: 4th Manchester United had now lost three successive Premier League matches and failed to score in all three too. This was the first time they had such a run in league games since April 1989. This season's trio followed a run of six consecutive victories. In the Premier League, they last lost three in a row in December 2001. They failed to score in three successive matches between May and August 2007. After converting six penalties in a row in the Premier League, Robin van Persie missed his first spot-kick since September 2012 in this game.

League position: 13th West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis recorded his first ever Premier League win over Manchester United as a manager after one draw and ten defeats. This was the Baggies' 350th all-time top flight away victory. Albion had now won back-to-back away Premier League games for the first time since November 2012 Victory gave the Baggies successive wins at Old Trafford following last season’s 2-1 win. They last achieved this when they claimed three successive wins at Old Trafford between 1958 and 1959. The first of these matches was the Red Devils' second league match after the Munich disaster. The teams had also met twice in the FA Cup in the preceding week.
