Comments:

This was the first time that Manchester United had scored the first goal of a Premier League season for ten years. Ruud Van Nistelrooy opened the scoring against Everton in 2005. United had now lost just once at Old Trafford in the season opener since 1972-73; Swansea City inflicting that defeat on 16 August 2014.

Comments:

This was the fifth time that Tottenham Hotspur had conceded the first goal of a Premier League season - more than any other team. Spurs had now only won five of their 47 Premier League meetings with the Red Devils. The two away victories had come in the previous three seasons. Dele Alli was booked in the first minute of added time in the second half.
