Comments:

League position: 4th According to Opta, Southampton's winning goal was the only shot on target throughout the game. It meant that Manchester United had failed to have a shot on target in a Premier League game at Old Trafford for the first time since 16 May 2009 in a goalless draw against Arsenal that confirmed United as champions. In Louis van Gaal's first season in charge, United now had 37 points from 21 Premier League games, exactly the same tally at the same stage last term which was David Moyes' only campaign as the Red Devils' boss.

Comments:

League position: 3rd This was Southampton's 500th win in the top division. Other than a FA Cup 4th round replay in February 1992 which they won on penalties, this was Southampton's first win at Manchester United since 16 January 1988 when two goals from Colin Clarke gave Chris Nicholl's Saints a 2-0 victory in the old First Division. They had failed to win in their last 19 league visits to Old Trafford (lost 16).
