Comments:

League position: 2nd This victory equalled Manchester United's competition record biggest-ever win in the Premier League; also versus Ipswich Town on 4 March 1995. Excluding the own goal, this became the second time that a team had seven different scorers in a game in the Premier League after Chelsea versus Aston Villa on 23 December 2012. Prior to this game, the Red Devils had scored 13 goals in their ten home games so far in this Premier League season. Manchester United were awarded a penalty after 42 minutes but the decision was reversed following a VAR review as the foul took place outside of the penalty area. Anthony Martial scored Manchester United's eighth goal in the final minute of normal time before Daniel James netted their ninth in the third minute of added time at the end of the game.

Comments:

League position: 12th This loss equalled Southampton's biggest ever defeat; also versus Leicester City at St Mary's Stadium in the Premier League on 25 October 2019. On his first start in the competition, Alexandre Jankewitz became the first player to be sent off in the opening two minutes of a game in the Premier League game since Gareth McAuley for West Bromwich Albion at Manchester City on 21 March 2015. The Saints had now lost four consecutive games in the Premier League for the first time since April 2018. Che Adams scored after 53 minutes but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision. An independent regulatory commission upheld the claim of wrongful dismissal for Jan Bednarek's red card after 86 minutes for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity. The subsequent suspension was removed.
