League position: 6th Manchester United had now won five consecutive Premier League games for the first time since April 2015. This was the first time that United had failed to keep a clean sheet in their final Premier League game of the year since 2011. They had now failed to score in only one of their last 18 Premier League games at Old Trafford.

League position: 16th This was the first time that Middlesbrough had lost their final league game of a year since 2009 when they lost at Barnsley in the League Championship. Boro had now lost four of their last five Premier League games. Grant Leadbitter's goal was his first in the Premier League since 14 March 2009 (for Sunderland against Wigan Athletic). Calum Chambers was booked in the second minute of added time in the second half.
