In his first home game in charge, Ole Gunnar Solskjær became the fifth United manager to win his first two league games (also TJ Wallworth, Matt Busby, Dave Sexton and José Mourinho). The Red Devils had now not lost a home league game on Boxing Day since 1978 against Liverpool (won 15, drawn three).

Comments:

League position: 20th Huddersfield Town had now lost their last six games in the Premier League, and 11 of their last 15 in the division. With one game still to play, the Terriers became the fourth team to lose six games in the Premier League in one calendar month (also Norwich City in April 1995, Wimbledon in April 2000 and Leicester City in April 2001). The Terriers had now won one of their nine away games in this Premier League season (lost six, one clean sheet).
