Comments:

Manchester United would not now win a major trophy in the 2014-15 campaign. It was the first time they were trophy-less in consecutive seasons since 1988-89. United had won 11 and lost only one of their last 15 meetings with Arsenal in all competitions. They had also lost only one of their last 15 home games against the Gunners (won 12). Wayne Rooney had now scored in each of his last three FA Cup games against Arsenal and scored eight goals in his last nine appearances in the FA Cup. This game was played on Danny Blind's 25th birthday.

Comments:

Arsenal had now progressed in to the Semi-finals after ten of their last 11 Quarter-finals in the FA Cup. This was their first win at Manchester United since September 2006 when Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goal in a Premier League victory. They had failed to score in each of their last four FA Cup matches against the Red Devils. None of the 18 players in the Gunners squad had previously won a game at Old Trafford whilst playing for Arsenal. Danny Welbeck had when he was with United, Theo Walcott for England and Mesut Ozil for Real Madrid though.
