Comments:

League position: 2nd Manchester City became the first team to win eight consecutive home games in the top division and score three or more goals in each win since Tottenham Hotspur in League Division One in August 1965. Erling Haaland became the first-ever player to score a hat-trick in three consecutive home games in the Premier League. He had now scored 103 goals in 100 appearances in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund and City. With the second goal of his hat-trick, Phil Foden had now scored 50 goals for City in all competitions. Only Francis Lee in December 1970 and Horace Barnes in October 1921 had previously scored hat-tricks for City in a Manchester derby.

Comments:

League position: 6th Manchester United had now trailed 4-0 at half-time in two of their four away games so far in this Premier League season, having last previously done so in an away league game in May 1990. They had now conceded four goals in the first-half of four games in the Premier League since the start of the 2021-22 season. The Red Devils failed in their attempt to become the fourth team to lose their opening two games of a season in the top division then win the next five; acheived by Sheffield United in 1931 and West Bromwich Albion in 1954 in League Division One and by Arsenal in 2018 in the Premier League. Antony became the second Brazilian to score in his first two appearances in the Premier League after Manchester City’s Robinho in September 2008.
