Comments:

League position: 3rd Liverpool had now drawn nil-nil in both games against the same opposition in a Premier League season for the first time since 2008-09 against Stoke City. James Milner failed to convert a penalty in a Premier League game for the first time since 7 November 2009 for Aston Villa against Bolton Wanderers. His 69th minute spot-kick in this game was saved so failing for the first time in his Liverpool career at the 12th attempt. The Reds failed to score in a home game for only the second time in this Premier League season (played 18). Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: “I thought our performance was good enough to win. Southampton wanted to come here and somehow get a point, or more, and I’m fine with defending. They did not create anything and we had a hard job to do. To play against ten deep defending Southampton players is very difficult."

Comments:

League position: 10th At the ninth attempt, Fraser Forster saved a penalty in a Premier League game for the first time. He became the first visiting keeper to save a penalty at Anfield in the Premier League since Queens Park Rangers' Rob Green saved Steven Gerrard's spot kick on 2 May 2015. Only Hull City (12) had now conceded more penalties in the Premier League so far in this season than Southampton (nine). The Saints had now taken three points from their ten games against opponents in the top six so far in their Premier League season. Southampton manager Claude Puel: "We defended very well and with quality and good organisation. Perhaps we could have done better with the counter-attack, but we showed good energy, spirit and organisation. It was difficult for them to come into our box and for me it was a harsh penalty and a good save. It was a deserved point."
