League position: 1st With this win, Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League for the first time since 1 October 2021. They trailed leaders Manchester City by 12 points on New Year’s Day. The Reds had now taken 35 points from their 13 games in the Premier League so far in 2022; eight more points than any other team in the division. They had now kept clean sheets in six of their last seven games in the Premier League.
