Comments:

League position: 8th This was the first time that Liverpool had held a two-goal half-time lead in the Premier League but failed to win since 5 May 1996 at Manchester City. It is the first time in Premier League history that they failed to convert a two-goal interval advantage at Anfield into three points. Only hours before it was revealed that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season, with Steven Gerrard's second goal, the Reds became the first team in Premier League history to convert 100 penalties. At this point, Chelsea had scored 99 penalty goals. The Liverpool captain has now scored from 31 penalties in the Premier League. Only Alan Shearer (56) and Frank Lampard (43) have scored more.

Comments:

League position: 20th Despite their second-half comeback, Leicester City remain without a win on New Year's Day in the top flight since 1966 (drawn four and lost five). Their only top division away win on the first day of a year was at Derby County in 1938.
