Comments:

League position: 6th Jonas Lössl saved Mohamed Salah’s 42nd minute penalty. No side had now missed more penalties in the Premier League than Liverpool (34, level with Arsenal). Daniel Sturridge scored his 100th goal in club competitions (62 for Liverpool, 24 for Chelsea, eight for Bolton Wanderers and six for Manchester City). All 18 of Georginio Wijnaldum's Premier League goals had been scored in home games (11 at St James' Park for Newcastle United and seven at Anfield for Liverpool). Dejan Lovren was originally named in the starting line-up before suffering a thigh injury in the pre-match warm-up. Ragnar Klavan was promoted to the starting XI with Ben Woodburn taking his place on the bench. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said: “The pressure was there, you could see the people, I could hear it, didn't like the first-half too much. I know. It's hard work. In the end nobody probably remembers the first-half because the second-half was much better. Today helped a lot. Three goals, three points, clean sheet, very important.”

Comments:

League position: 11th Huddersfield Town had now failed to score in four consecutive away league games for the first time since October 2007 in League One. The Terriers failed in their attempt to become the first newly-promoted team to defeat both Liverpool and Manchester United in the same Premier League season since Portsmouth in 2003-04. They had now lost five of their last eight league and cup games (won one). Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner said: “You have to neutralise the offensive power that these teams have, the players have done this very well and shown great attitude. But, you are not allowed to make one single mistake, or they will punish you, that’s what they’ve done today and this is what you have to accept."
