Comments:

League position: 3rd Liverpool had now won four consecutive home games in the Premier League for the first time since March 2015. They were now unbeaten in their last 15 Premier League games against the current top ten in this season (won nine). Jurgen Klopp became the first Reds manager to win his first three league Merseyside derbies. Many observers thought Everton's Ross Barkley should have been sent-off for some over zealous tackling. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: "I'm still a kind of a guest in this country. How can I decide what is okay and what is not okay? My opinion is that the players should leave the pitch healthy and fit but not injured."

Comments:

League position: 7th This was only Everton's second defeat in their last 13 Premier League games (won eight). The Toffees had kept four clean sheets in their five preceding Premier League games. Matthew Pennington became the fifth player to score his first Premier League goal in a Merseyside derby (also Duncan Ferguson, John Arne Riise, Raul Meireles and Steven Naismith). Everton manager Ronald Koeman said: "Maybe one or two tackles were a little too much. It's football, a derby. From both sides I saw tackles that were maybe more than a yellow. According to the bench of Liverpool, and I don't mean the manager, the referee should have shown eight red cards."
