Comments:

League position: 4th Liverpool had now won their opening Premier League home game in each of the last five seasons. The Reds had now kept five clean sheets in their last six Premier League games; as many as in the previous 21 games. Sadio Mané had now scored six goals in his last eight Premier League games and four goals in six career Premier League appearances against Crystal Palace. Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp said: "We could have played a little clearer in the first-half. We defended brilliantly and we had the ball all of the time. It felt like 85% possession. You need to make the right decisions and in the first-half we didn't. We could have finished more often than we did, but had our moments."

League position: 19th Crystal Palace had now lost their opening two Premier League games in four of their last five seasons. Frank De Boer became only the second Dutch manager to suffer defeat in his first two Premier League games after Martin Jol at Tottenham Hotspur, who lost his opening three in the competition in November 2004. Palace had now lost six of their last seven games in the Premier League, failing to score in each defeat. Crystal Palace manager Frank De Boer said: "We were quite concentrated for almost all of the match. I saw a team who wants to fight for each other. It could be a draw, a Liverpool win or the other way. With our two chances it could have been different. A lot of times they were frustrated because we played very organised."
