Final league position 2017-18: 4th Two weeks before facing Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League final, Liverpool needed to avoid defeat in this game to qualify for the competition in 2018-19. It was the seventh time they had remained unbeaten at home throughout a top division season (more than any other team) and they were the only team to remain unbeaten at home in the top four divisions in this season. Mohamed Salah equalled the all-time English record of scoring in 34 games in all competitions in a season (Joe Payne of Luton Town in 1936-37 and Clive Allen of Tottenham Hotspur in 1986-87). He also scored his 32nd goal of this Premier League season to set a new competition record for most goals in a 38-game season. Only Andy Cole (34 in 1993-94) and Alan Shearer (34 in 1994-95) had scored more goals in a season (both in 42 games). The Reds finished in the top four in consecutive Premier League seasons for the first time since 2008-09. This was Liverpool's 500th home game in the Premier League (won 303, lost 70). It was also their 1,000th game in the competition (won 499, lost 246).

Final league position 2017-18: 15th This was Brighton and Hove Albion's highest final position since finishing 13th in League Division One in 1981-82 which remains as the highest final position in the club's history. Albion had now won one of their last ten games in all competitions (lost six). The Seagulls were now without a win in their last 13 away games in the Premier League since winning at Swansea City on 4 November 2017 (lost nine). Along with relegated West Bromwich Albion, with ten goals, they were the joint-lowest scorers in away games in this Premier League season. Lewis Dunk was one of only five outfield players who played in every minute of their team's games in this Premier League season.
