Comments:

League position: 5th This was Liverpool's first home win in the Premier League since the visit of Tottenham Hotspur on 16 December 2020; longer than any other team currently in the division. The Reds avoided remaining without a win in nine consecutive home league games for the first time since 1951-52 in League Division One. They became the fourth team to take 2,000 points from their games in the Premier League after Manchester United (2,294), Arsenal (2,053) and Chelsea (2,051). Roberto Firmino scored after 45 minutes but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision.

Comments:

League position: 10th Aston Villa had now lost three of their last six games in the Premier League (won one). Villa had now scored one goal in each of seven of their last 12 games in the Premier League and none in four of the other five. They became the first team to score eight or more goals against the reigning champions in a top division season since Leeds United against Derby County in 1972-73 in League Division One.
