The Nigeria Football Federation decided to refuse to fulfill this fixture on the scheduled date. They accused the Libyan authorities of negligence after the playing squad was left stranded at the Al Abraq International Airport for 15 hours.
On 26 October 2024, CAF announced that Nigeria were awarded a 3–0 walkover win, and fined Libya.
