Comments:

Germany became the first nation to be crowned world champions and holders of the UEFA European Championship title at the same time. Sepp Maier, Franz Beckenbauer, Wolfgang Overath, Jürgen Grabowski and Horst-Dieter Höttges became the first players to be winners, runners-up and third-placed medalists in the history of the World Cup.

Comments:

In their third appearance at a World Cup finals (also 1934 and 1938), this was the first time that the Netherlands had reached the Final of major international tournament.
