Comments:

Although finishing as runners-up in Group F, had Germany lost this game, they would have been eliminated at the group stage of consecutive major tournaments for the first time. 19 goals had now been scored in Germany's last four games (14 for, five against). Ádám Szalai's opener after 11 minutes became the earliest goal that had Germany conceded in a game at the UEFA European Championship finals since Viorel Moldovan of Romania in a Group A game in 2000 (five minutes).

Comments:

Despite being ahead for most of this game and looking poised to qualify for the knockout stages, Hungary finished bottom of Group F and were eliminated. They failed in their attempt to win their final group game at a major tournament for the first time since the FIFA World Cup finals in 1966. Hungary had now won two of their 11 games at UEFA European Championship finals (lost five).
