Comments:

This was Finland's second game at their first UEFA European Championship finals. Having never previously qualified for a FIFA World Cup finals, this was also their debut at a major tournament. Finland failed in their attempt to become the first nation to win their first two games at the UEFA Championship finals since Croatia in 1996. They had now lost two of their last nine competitive (non-friendly) games (won five). Joel Pohjanpalo scored after three minutes but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision.
