Comments:

League position: 15th This was Everton's second defeat in the 12 Premier League games played at Goodison Park in 2017 (won ten). Leighton Baines became the first outfield player to start 300 Premier League games for the Toffees. Wayne Rooney became the second player in Premier League history to be shown 100 yellow cards after Gareth Barry (119). Everton manager Ronald Koeman said: "I am disappointed. I thought the first 25 minutes was okay. We had some chances but after the lucky 1-0 down it was really difficult. We lost control in the game. Tottenham's midfield diamond was difficult to control. Straight away in the second-half the third goal killed the confidence in our team and Tottenham grew even more."

Comments:

League position: 5th Harry Kane's first goal in this game was his 100th for Tottenham Hotspur in all competitions. Having failed to score in his 13 Premier League appearances during the month of August, he had now scored in his first game in September in each of the last two seasons. Spurs had now won four consecutive away games in the Premier League for the first time since 19 January 2014 (then five in a row). Christian Eriksen became the joint-highest scoring Dane in the history of the Premier League (also 32 goals with Nicklas Bendtner). Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino said: "I'm happy that he [Harry Kane] has scored 100 goals for Tottenham. He deserves a lot of praise - congratulations to him. It is an unbelievable mark for him. I think it was a very solid performance. I think we played well, and fully deserved in the end the result and to take the three points. I'm very pleased. We have ahead a very busy period and this was a very important victory for us today."
