Comments:

This was England's first win in their opening game of a World Cup finals since 1982 when Ron Greenwood's team beat France 3-1 in Bilbao. The last time England won a game via an own goal was in the World Cup qualifying game against Poland in Chorzow in September 2004. Arkadiusz Głowacki 'scored' England's second in a vital 2-1 victory.

Comments:

Paraguay have now failed to score in their three meetings with England.
