Comments:

England now remained unbeaten in their last 42 qualifiers for the World Cup and European Championships (won 33) since October 2009. With his second hat-trick, Harry Kane became the first player to score 25 or more goals in his first 40 appearances for the England since Gary Lineker (27). He had now has scored five penalties in his last five appearances at Wembley Stadium for club and country (two for Tottenham Hotspur and three for England). Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier became the first player from a Spanish club to play for the England since David Beckham (Real Madrid) in June 2007. Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling became the first players to score in each of England's opening three games of a UEFA European Championship qualifying campaign since David Beckham in Euro 2004.

Bulgaria remained without a win in ten away games in qualifying for the World Cup or UEFA European Championship since June 2015 against Malta (lost eight).
