This fully deserved victory was Ghana's first-ever win at the World Cup finals. Ghana become the first of the six debutant nations at the 2006 finals to win a game. They are also the first victorious African nation at this tournament. In the 67th minute, Asamoah Gyan became the first player to miss a penalty in the 2006 World Cup finals. Sulley Ali Muntari and Asamoah Gyan's yellow cards rule them out of the next game.
