Comments:

League position: 20th After losing their first seven league games of the season without scoring, Crystal Palace scored two goals in 35 minutes after having failed to score in their previous 730 minutes of play in the Premier League. The Eagles' 11th minute opener ended a run of 640 minutes without scoring from the start of this Premier League season. In English league history, only Halifax Town in League Division Four in 1990-91 (730 minutes) had recorded a longer run. With his first win as Palace boss, Roy Hodgson became only the second manager to win Premier League games against Chelsea with four different clubs (also former Eagles manager Sam Allardyce). Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson said: "We had much more goal threat today. It would be a little unfair that a performance we’re all proud of is because one good player who hasn’t been playing returned. Wilf of course played a large part in that without a doubt, but the reason we beat the champions was because we had Wilf Zaha and ten others.”

Comments:

League position: 5th Chelsea had now lost consecutive Premier League games under Antonio Conte for only the second time (also September 2016). This was the sixth time that the team starting the day at the bottom of the Premier League had beaten the reigning Champions. The Blues had won eight of their preceding nine away games in the Premier League. Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said "When you start a game without Morata and without Kante, it’s not simple. And during a game you lose another important player in your team like Victor Moses. Despite this we have to find the will to fight. I think this season will be very difficult and for this reason we have to put 150% in. It’s not enough to put 100% in like last season. Me first, the staff and the players have to put in 150% because the season will be very difficult. Don’t look for excuses. Through work, we find a solution. It won’t be easy, but I must put all of myself into my job.”
