League position: 1st Despite going seven points clear at the top with five games to play, Chelsea had now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 games in the Premier League for the first time since a run of 13 games in December 1996. Eden Hazard had now scored 15 goals in a Premier League season for the first time in his career. Diego Costa's first goal was his 50th in his 85th game in the Premier League. Only Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink had reached this landmark for the Blues in fewer games (84). Chelsea manager Antonio Conte said: "To score at the end of the first-half was very important. I was confident. I was seeing the team show a great will to win. In this part of the season, it's not easy. We must be confident for the future. It's important to look at ourselves and not the other [second-placed Tottenham Hotspur]."

League position: 9th After nine attempts, Southampton remained without a win against a team in the top six so far in this Premier League season (lost seven). Oriol Romeu's goal against his former club was his first in the Premier League since 5 December 2015 for the Saints against Aston Villa. With his late goal against his former club, Ryan Bertrand had now scored three goals in a season for the first time in his career. Southampton manager Claude Puel said: "We didn't find the good clinical edge in the boxes and we need to correct this, but we were playing a great team and the details made the difference. We saw good intensity and quality on the pitch and it will be interesting now to improve on the concentration of the detail. After two games lost it's a very important game the next one, because we need to stay in the first half of the table."
