Comments:

League position: 10th Andreas Christensen was initially shown a yellow card after 44 minutes but was upgraded to a red card following a VAR review. He became the first Chelsea player to be sent off in the Premier League since Tiemoué Bakayoko in a 4-1 defeat at Watford on 5 February 2018 (a run of 89 games in the Premier League without a red card). Jorginho's 75th minute penalty was saved. He had converted all eight of the previous penalties he had taken for the Blues in all competitions. This was the first time that Chelsea had a player sent-off and missed a penalty in the same game in the Premier League since a 1-1 draw with Blackburn Rovers on 17 February 1999 (Gianluca Vialli was sent off and Frank Leboeuf missed the penalty).

Comments:

League position: 4th Liverpool had now won their opening two games in three consecutive seasons in the top division for the first time. Sadio Mané had now scored 86 goals in 196 games in the Premier League. He had failed to score in his five previous appearances for the Reds at Stamford Bridge in all competitions. Andreas Christensen became the first opposition player to be sent-off in a Liverpool game in the Premier League since Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace on 28 August 2018. This was the first time they had kept a clean sheet in their last seven games in the Premier League.
