League position: 4th This was manager Arsene Wenger's 1,000th match in charge of Arsenal. Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain conceded a penalty after 15 minutes for tipping Chelsea’s Eden Hazard's shot wide of the goal with his fingertips but referee Andre Marriner incorrectly sent off Kieran Gibbs. A Football Association panel subsequently decided that not only was the wrong player dismissed, but that Oxlade-Chamberlain's goal-line handball did not deserve a red card. Arsenal claimed that his offence had not prevented either a goal or a goal-scoring opportunity because Hazard's shot was going wide. The current rules stated that while a player should be booked for deliberately handling the ball, a red card should only be shown for "the unacceptable and unfair intervention that prevented a goal being scored". Therefore, the red card was withdrawn from both players' records.
