Comments:

League position: 7th Burnley ended the day in the top eight of the top division outside of the month of August for the first time since 18 April 18 1975. This was the Clarets' second win in their last eight Premier League games at Turf Moor (lost four). Chris Wood became the first player to score in both of his first two Premier League appearances for Burnley and only the sixth player from New Zealand to start a Premier League game (also Ryan Nelsen, Winston Reid, Simon Elliott, Danny Hay and Lee Norfolk). Burnley manager Sean Dyche said: "We were resolute, that was the key. Palace were the better side today. We didn't get into our stride at all. They played well throughout the game. Sometimes it's just not your day. It's our worst performance of the season so far but the shape of the team, the belief in each other, was on show."

Comments:

League position: 19th Manager Frank De Boer was sacked the day after this game after only four Premier League games in charge. It became the shortest reign in the competition's history breaking the record held by Charlton Athletic's Les Reed in 2006 (seven games). Palace became the first team to lose all of their four opening games of a top division season without scoring a goal since Preston North End in 1924-25 (also Derby County in 1898-99 and Stoke in 1905-06). The Eagles had now failed to score in their opening four games of a league season for the first time in their history. They had now lost eight of their last nine games in the Premier League. Crystal Palace manager Frank De Boer said: "I cannot believe we lost. There is still frustration about the result but not about our performance. The goal we conceded was very disappointing. We have given a lot of sloppy goals away already and that was even worse. We did not give much away, controlled the game and you have to reward yourself by scoring goals. That is what football is about."
