Comments:

Burnley had now equalled their club record 11 consecutive home league games without a win; previously from April to November in 1979 in League Division Two. James Tarkowski's goal was timed at one minute and 43 seconds. It became the quickest goal scored in a game on the opening weekend of a Premier League season since Alexandre Lacazette for Arsenal against Leicester City in 2017 (one minute and 34 seconds). The Clarets had now equalled the competition record for most consecutive games in the Premier League without being shown a red card; also 94 games by Ipswich Town from 1992 to 1994.

Comments:

Brighton and Hove Albion had now won their opening game in three of the last ten league seasons (lost six). Albion had lost four of last five away games in the Premier League in 2020-21 (drawn one). Neal Maupay became the third player to score a goal in the opening game of a Premier League season on his birthday after Jay Jay Okocha (Bolton Wanderers) and Roque Santa Cruz (Blackburn Rovers).
