Comments:

League position: 19th This was the last of caretaker manager Graeme Jones’ three games in charge prior to the confirmation of Eddie Howe’s appointment as Newcastle United’s new manager. After 11 games of this Premier League season, due to Norwich City’s win earlier in the day, the Magpies now remained as the only team without a win. This was now their worst-ever start to a league season. Five of the players in United’s starting XI for this game were also in their starting line-up for the League Championship game against Cardiff City on 5 November 2016.
