Comments:

Brighton and Hove Albion had now won three of their 19 games in the Premier League in 2020 (lost seven); excluding the newly-promoted teams, fewer than of any current teams in the division. The Seagulls failed in their attempt to win their opening league game in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2010-11. Adam Lallana made his Albion debut in this game. As he was withdrawn due to injury before half-time, he had now not played the entire 90 minutes of a game in the Premier League since 21 May 2017 (for Liverpool versus Middlesbrough).

Comments:

Chelsea had now taken 2,000 points from their 1,077 games in the Premier League (won 579, lost 235). This was the third time that the Blues had started a season in the Premier League by playing their opening game on a Monday. They went on to win the title in the two previous seasons (2014-15 and 2016-17). Excluding penalty shoot-outs, Jorginho had now scored all eight of the penalties he had taken for Chelsea in all competitions.
