Comments:

Final league position 2021-22: 13th Brentford failed in their attempt to become the first team to win the final game of their first season in the Premier League since Swansea City in 2011-12. Had the Bees won this game, they would have had the highest points total (49) by a team in their debut season in the Premier League since Reading in 2006-07 (55). They had won seven of their preceding ten games in the Premier League (lost two).

Comments:

Final league position 2021-22: 17th Leeds United needed to better Burnley's result of this last day of the Premier League season to avoid relegation to the League Championship. The Clarets lost 2-1 to Newcastle United at Turf Moor. The Whites became the first team to start the final day of a season in the Premier League's relegation zone and stay up since Wigan Athletic in 2010-11. They spent 26 days in the relegation zone in 2021-22. Only three teams had now spent fewer days in the bottom three in a Premier League season and gone down (eight by Wimbledon in 1999-00, 18 by Sunderland in 1996-97 and 22 by Blackpool in 2010-11). [c/o Jonny Cooper] Joe Gelhardt scored in the 19th minute but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review due to an offside decision.
