Kick-off: 3.00pm local Belgium v Tunisia was the 27th game played at the FIFA World Cup 2018 (Match no 29) Refereeing team: Referee: Jair Marrufo (USA) Assistant Referee 1: Corey Rockwell (USA) Assistant Referee 2: Juan Zumba (El Salvador) Fourth Official: Andres Cunha (Uruguay) Reserve AR: Nicolas Taran (Uruguay) VAR: Mark Geiger (USA) With a victory that confirmed their progress to the knock-out stages with a group game still to play, this became Belgium's biggest-ever win at the World Cup finals. It was the third time that they had scored four or more goals in a game at the competition's finals; also 4-4 versus England in 1954 and 4-3 versus USSR in 1986. Tunisia's previous heaviest defeat at a World Cup finals was 3-1 versus Spain at Stuttgart in 2006. This was the first-ever time that Belgium had led by two goals within the opening 20 minutes of a game at the World Cup finals. Romelu Lukaku became the first player to score two or more goals in consecutive games at the World Cup finals since Diego Maradona in 1986 (against England and Belgium). Romelu Lukaku had now scored more goals than any other Belgian player at the World Cup finals and European Championship finals (seven). 13 penalties had now been awarded in 27 games at this World Cup finals; as many as in all of the 64 games at the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil. This result meant that this was the first time that the first 27 games of a World Cup finals had failed to produce a goalless draw.
