This was the first time that Barcelona had conceded eight goals in a game since an 8-0 defeat by Sevilla in a Round of 16, 1st leg tie in the Copa del Rey on 21 April 1946. This was the first time that Barca had lost by a six goal margin since a 6-0 defeat by Espanyol in La Liga on 14 April 1951.

This was the first time that a team had scored four goals in the opening 31 minutes of a knock-out game in the UEFA Champions League. Bayern München held the previous record as they scored four against Porto after 36 minutes in the 2nd leg of their quarter-final in 2015.
