League position: 17th This was the first time that Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert had faced his former club since leaving Norwich City in the summer. With one win and three draws in their first nine games, 2012-13 became the worst start to an Aston Villa season in 43 years. They drew two and lost seven of their first nine games in the old Second Division in 1969 and, in due course, were subsequently relegated to the third tier for the first time in their history.
