This was now the first time that they had won their opening three games of a league season since 1962-63 in League Division One. With his first goals in the Premier League, Ollie Watkins' hat-trick was Villa's 11th in the competition; the first since Christian Benteke against Queens Park Rangers on 7 April 2015 and the second to be completed in the first-half (also Tommy Johnson against Wimbledon on 11 February 1995 after 38 minutes). The Reds conceded a hat-trick in the first-half of a game in the Premier League for the first time since Andy Cole for Newcastle United on 21 November 1993 (lost 0-3). This was the second time that they had conceded four or more goals in the first-half of a game in the Premier League; also in a 6-1 loss at Stoke City on 24 May 2015.
