Comments:

League position: 2nd Aston Villa failed in their attempt to win the opening five games of a league season for the first time in their history. They failed in their attempt to equal their club record of five consecutive wins in the Premier League for the first time since April 1998. Had they avoided defeat, Villa would have finished a day on top of the Premier League for the first time since August 2011 and for the first time at least five games into a season since November 2001.

Comments:

League position: 3rd Leeds United had now taken 702 points from their 474 games in the Premier League (won 192, lost 156). Patrick Bamford became the first player to score a hat-trick in the Premier League for the Whites since Mark Viduka against Charlton Athletic on 5 April 2003. He became the first player to score in each of United's first three away games in a season in the top division since Gordon Hodgson in 1937-38. They had now scored 12 goals so far in this Premier League season; the most by a newly-promoted team after six games of a season in the division since Middlesbrough in 1992-93 (12).
