Comments:

League position: 11th Aston Villa failed in their attempt to score two or more goals in seven consecutive games in the top division for the first time since November 1980. Danny Ings failed in his attempt to become the first player to score in each of Villa's opening three games of a league season since Dalian Atkinson in 1992-93 in the Premier League. Manager Dean Smith was in charge of Brentford for 143 games from November 2015 to October 2018 (won 57, lost 51).

Comments:

League position: 9th Brentford now remained unbeaten in league games since 3 March 2021; longer than any other team currently in the Premier League. Since the start of the 2019-20 season, Ivan Toney had now scored more league goals than any other player in the top four divisions (56). Ivan Toney scored the Bees' first goal in an away game in the top division since Len Townsend in a 2-1 defeat at Sunderland in League Division One on 24 May 1947.
