Comments:

This was the first game of Arsenal's 99th season in the top division. The Gunners had lost their opening Premier League game just once in the previous 14 seasons (won nine and drawn four). The lone defeat was a 3-1 home loss to Aston Villa in 2013 although they had now begun with a victory just once in the last six seasons (against Crystal Palace in 2014). They had now failed to score in four of their last five Premier League games at the Emirates Stadium.

Comments:

Reece Oxford at 16 years and 236 days was the second youngest player to start a Premier League match after Jose Baxter, 16 years and 198 days, for Everton against West Bromwich Albion on 23 August 2008. Mauro Zarate’s three Premier League goals for the Hammers have been scored in away matches. This was a first win for the Hammers over the Gunners since a 1-0 win at the Emirates on 7 April 2007, which was also Arsenal’s first defeat at their new stadium. This ended a run of 15 matches in all competitions; two draws, 13 defeats. This was West Ham United's first away Premier League win since a 2-1 victory at West Bromwich Albion on 2 December 2014; five draws, seven defeats.
