League position: 3rd This was Arsenal’s first home defeat in the Premier League since the visit of Liverpool on 14 August 2016. The Gunners had now not won a home game in the Premier League when they were trailing by two goals or more at half-time since a 3-2 victory against Aston Villa in December 2001. Prior to this game, they had not conceded a goal in the opening 15 minutes of their last 53 home games in the Premier League.

With this win, the Hornets ended a run of seven consecutive Premier League games without a victory (lost four) since a 3-2 win against Everton on 10 December 2016. Tom Cleverley was booked in the second minute of added time in the second-half.
