Comments:

League position: 5th Alexis Sánchez had now scored 23 goals in this Premier League season; one less than the division's 2016-17 leading scorer, Romelu Lukaku. Arsenal had now lost one of their last 17 home games in the Premier League (won 13). The Gunners had now won 70 points or more in 17 of Arsène Wenger's 20 full Premier League seasons in charge. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said: "Last season we made 71 points and were second. We now have 72 and want to go to 75. After that you deal with what happens. We've got in on the final day many times. Sunderland fought and you want that in the Premier League. That's what you want from every team."

Comments:

League position: 20th Sunderland had now failed to score in 20 games in this Premier League season; more than any other side and for the first time in a league season since 2002-03. The Black Cats had now failed to score in 11 of their last 16 away games in the Premier League. They failed in their attempt to win consecutive away games in the Premier League for the first time since April 2014. Sunderland manager David Moyes said: "If we got the first goal it could have been completely different. After I got in in August, I didn't think we had a squad capable but it was what we've got, you have to try and ultimately we were just short. I'll speak with chairman Ellis Short over the next few days. I've given him an indication of what we need to do and we'll look to see if that's possible."
